This course is open men and women over the age of 18. This Special 9 week course at Kingswood Leisure Centre has been specially designed to offer an overview of all aspects of Aikido as taught by Kobayashi Dojos in Japan.
If you have ever wondered what it would be like to study a martial art, but have never tried or been a little too nervous to attend a regular practice with more experienced students this is the ideal opportunity to start from scratch.
This specially designed 9 week course will start by explaining what Aikido is and how it differs from other martial arts that you may know.
Over the weeks you will be carefully guided through how to fall properly, basic body movements that are unique to and set Aikido apart from other martial systems.
You will also be introduced to the Bokken (wooden training sword) and Jo (wooden) staff. Both weapons are widely used in Aikido and in particular within Kobayashi Dojos in Japan. You will be taught some of the basic movements with both weapons and develop on to partner practices.
Each lesson you will be shown a new technique to practice. In the following lessons this repertoire will be refined and built upon. |
