REGISTRATION

Enrolling into Aikido Tenchikan dojo is very simple. We take on new members throughout the year. 
You are also welcome to come along and watch a class at any time.

To join the dojo download the Association Membership document and Beginners Pack here or come along and complete the registration paperwork on the night. 
Please note you must hold British Aikido Board insurance to be able to practice with us.  This can be purchased when you join the dojo as a combined Membership & Insurance.

WHAT TO WEAR

To practice Aikido you will need to wear a keiko dogi (Judo suit). It is not necessary to buy one immediately, however you should look to get one within a few weeks of joining. They are available in martial art stores in Bristol and on the internet prices start from around £25

MEMBERSHIP & INSURANCE

An annual membership and insurance fee of £40 is required. This is broken down in the following way:

Personal liability insurance through the British Aikido Board via Perkins Slade.  Annual membership to Kobayashi United Kingdom.
As a non-profit making association membership fees are used to cover the costs involved in organising instruction from Kobayashi dojos instructors & other overseas instructors

PRACTICE FEE

Members pay monthly on the first available practice of the month. The cost is based on the number of practices the student wishes to attend per week

Fees from 1st January 2026
£30 per month - 1 Practice a week
£50 per month - 2 Practices a week

4 REASONS TO TRAIN WITH US

  • JAPANESE TRAINED INSTRUCTOR

    Practice with a Japanese trained instructor affiliated to Kobayashi Dojos, Japan. Direct lineage back to the founder of Aikido O-Sensei via Hiroaki Kobayashi and Yasuo Kobayashi.

  • JAPANESE INSTRUCTION

    Annually, we invite instructors from Kobayashi dojos, Japan, to help develop our Aikido.  We also have other events & international instructors visiting from time to time.

  • INTERNATIONAL AIKIKAI DAN GRADES

    All our black belt examinations are held once a year under the supervision of Hiroaki Kobayashi (7th Dan), head of Kobayashi dojos.  These examinations are then taken to Aikikai Hombu Dojo for registration and signing from the current Doshu (currently grandson of the founder).

    We are a member of the official Sport England recognised governing body of UK Aikido

KOBAYASHI DOJOS UNITED KINGDOM

OFFICIAL ASSOCIATION & REPRESENTATIVES OF AIKIDO KOBAYASHI DOJOS IN THE UNITED KINGDOM

Kobayashi Dojos United Kingdom (KUK) is official association and representatives of Kobayashi dojos in the U.K.  The association was established to further the development of Aikido under the direction of Kobayashi dojos and Hiroaki Kobayashi Shihan.

The association Kobayashi dojos United Kingdom is a member of the British Aikido Board which is recognised by Sport England as the official governing body of Aikido in the U.K. 

Through annual subscription of the KUK, membership fees help fund seminars with senior instructors from Kobayashi dojos, Japan in addition to the following benefits:-
